The DouTua wine comes from a place where the landscape is defined by the meeting of the Douro and Tua rivers. I consider this wine unique for the perfect combination of the beauty of the site, the intensity of the heat, and the qualities of the soil.
— Jorge Guimarães
Vineyard
Single vineyard, approximately 40 years old. Low-yielding and planted exclusively with native Douro grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz.
Winemaking
The grapes underwent traditional foot treading in lagares during the first 24 hours of phenolic extraction, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats under controlled temperature and atmosphere.
Maturation
Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, followed by aging in used 500 L French Allier oak barrels for 18 months.
Bottling
On December 21, 2020, a total of 5,598 bottles (750 ml), 151 magnums (1,500 ml), and 15 jeroboams (3,000 ml) were bottled.
Tasting Notes
Deep purple-red colour. Aromas of ripe red fruit combined with hints of spiced toast, harmonious and seductive. Lively on the palate with present but well-polished ripe tannins. Excellent balance between freshness and complexity, offering immediate pleasure and also good aging potential.
Serving suggestion: Between 16ºC and 18ºC, with prior decanting.
